Energy Storage Analyst (BESS)

Our client, a world-leading independent provider of analysis, data, research, and tools to decision-makers driving change in the global energy system, is seeking an Energy Storage Analyst to join their energy storage team to cover the Indian battery supply chain and the market for energy storage systems (ESS).

This is a 12-month contract role based in Mumbai/New Delhi.

In this role, you will combine data, technology, policy and market analysis to build a clear view of how the Indian battery value chain is evolving – from components and cell manufacturing through to deployed storage projects. You will contribute to both quantitative and qualitative analysis for research publications and presentations, helping to turn complex information into clear, structured insight.

The ideal candidate will have interest in and enthusiasm for the energy industry and the energy transition in Indian markets, along with battery industry or technology expertise to drive innovative solutions in renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities:

- Track and analyze developments in battery manufacturing, ESS projects, and power market integration in India.
- Contribute to research publications, datasets, and reports.
- Perform both quantitative and qualitative analysis using Excel, SQL, and client databases.
- Collaborate with global teams across power markets, renewable energy, clean transport, and grid infrastructure.
- Present research to clients and at industry events.
- Conduct in-depth research on battery manufacturing, component supply chains, and cost trends across the Indian market
- Track and analyze ESS projects, including project financing, deployment trends, and co-location with renewable energy
- Monitor industry developments, key announcements, and policy changes impacting the energy storage sector
- Build and maintain datasets covering battery production, localized costs, and market activity
- Analyze competitive dynamics within the energy storage and battery manufacturing landscape
- Evaluate power market integration and the role of storage within grid systems
- Contribute to quantitative and qualitative analysis for research reports, presentations, and client deliverables
- Translate complex data and market developments into clear, structured insights
- Collaborate with internal teams covering power markets, renewable energy, clean transport, and grid infrastructure

Key Requirements:

- Degree in chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in the energy industry and energy transition.
- Battery industry or technology expertise.
- Fluent English (writing and speaking) and proficiency in Hindi or another Indian language.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Solid MS Office skills, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Desirable Skills:

- Masters or PhD in relevant fields.
- Experience with Python, SQL, or large-scale data analysis.
- Prior experience in energy or battery market research (internship, academic research, or work experience).
