About the Opportunity
This position is responsible for proper and efficient operation of the facility. The Energy Production Operator controls, operates and maintains boilers, chillers, generators and other mechanical equipment to provide steam and chilled water that will meet Cleveland Thermal’s client needs and demands for a clean and reliable source of energy 365 days a year.
Major Accountabilities
Practices and complies with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work being performed; writes Safe Job Procedures when requested.
Operates boilers and chillers in a safe and efficient manner keeping equipment in clean and working order; fully understands the steam/chilled water systems.
Maintains system pressures and temperatures to meet customer requirements.
Starts, stops & operates plant equipment such as (but not limited to) forced draft fans, boiler feed pumps, compressors, chillers & other auxiliary equipment. Cleans, oils and greases equipment and repacks pumps and valves as assigned. Continually observes and inspects the equipment during operation by making rounds throughout the plant (all floors and roof).
General Responsibilities
Conduct and documents boiler water tests (and make treatment adjustments), test softener room water (hardness, pH, alk, etc.) regenerate softeners, mix treatment chemicals, report and maintain inventory of reagents and bulk chemicals and unload deliveries of chemicals (acid, caustic, salt, drums, etc.).
Change charts, take readings, take water samples and keep logs and records as directed.
Perform daily walk downs of equipment, document performance and establish work orders for required maintenance activities. Prioritize work orders based on criticality to maintaining service to the customer.
Isolate equipment (lockout/tag out as required) in preparation for maintenance and assist in repair work on equipment or structures as assigned or needed.
Inspects vehicles and equipment prior to operation, assists peers in the proper operation of plant equipment, and communicates with peers at shift change to adequately describe the activities performed and planned for the next shift to maintain safe operation and avoid trouble and delays during scheduled work.
Keep accurate and timely logs and records, and be able to produce information for production reports (such as utility usage, fuel used, chilled water/steam produced, etc.)
Provides give guided tours of the facility to visitors and be able to explain, in detail, the complete operation process. Make sure all visitors have the proper safety attire and that they have signed in and out of the log book.
Maintain a clean and safe work space including plant, control room, vehicles, and professional appearance.
Quickly respond to emergency call outs and assist as needed.
Working Conditions
Works in a power plant environment and with large equipment will be exposed to hazardous conditions associated with environment. Exposed to steam, electricity/high voltage, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat, confined spaces, dust, grease, oil, fumes, wet, humid and noisy environment.
Must wear hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, leather gloves and any other appropriate safety equipment when required; must be OSHA compliant.
Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted.
Must be able to remain calm in high stress situations
Qualifications
Education / Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in operation of boilers, chillers, motors, pumps and generators.
3rd Class Stationary Engineers license (Ohio), Refrigeration license preferred.
Valid Driver’s License.
Past experience using hand and power tools preferred.
Skilled in driving forklifts, manlifts, unloading trucks and chemical totes.
The anticipated pay range for this position is $26-$30 per hour, based on relevant experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for overtime.
