Job Description

Ducks Unlimited Canada is hiring a full-time Conservation Technician for a fixed term (May-Aug) in The Pas, MB. Responsibilities include maintaining wetland projects, operating equipment, conducting assessments, and liaising with stakeholders. Candidates should be pursuing a career in related fields, possess a valid driver's license, and be comfortable with outdoor work and travel. The salary ranges from CA$18 to CA$22 per hour based on experience.
Position Details: Full Time, Fixed Term (approx. May – Aug)
Salary: Salary range between $18-$22, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
Location: The Pas, MB (Accommodations may be provided and will be discussed further with candidates during interviews)

What You Will Do

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of DUC’s wetland projects in the Saskatchewan River Delta, including:
• Maintaining and repairing water control structures, including beaver and vegetation removal (using hand tools and water pumps)
• Upkeeping field equipment and conducting yard and shop cleanups
• Operating watercraft vessels and off-road vehicles
• Assisting in wetland biological assessments and engineering inspections
• Liaising with private landowners, watershed districts, and government representatives at various levels
• Participating in the planning and coordination of field activities within a team environment

This position will involve physical work, heavy lifting, travel throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and working outdoors in variable and inclement weather conditions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, have flexibility with hours and travel, and be able to follow directions to execute tasks safely and efficiently without direct supervision.

Requirements
• Pursuing a career in agriculture, engineering technology, biology, plant ecology, environmental science or resource management.
• Valid Driver’s License; some travel within Manitoba and Saskatchewan
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed, which may include longer days, evenings and weekends at times.
• Familiarity with navigating rural landscapes
• GIS capabilities, familiar with GPS units
• Comfortability driving, maneuvering and backing up vehicles and vessels
• Pleasure Craft Operators Card, ATV, Chainsaw, WHMIS 2015, MED A3, and SDV-BS experiences or certificates would all be considered assets
• Must have a passion for conservation, the environment and the outdoors.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Excel, and Word
