Job Description
The Climate Data Analyst Fellow position at Zintellect involves working with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics to analyze transportation data and its impact on climate change. The role includes assessing transit infrastructure affected by climate activities and compiling information on travel demand models. This internship is based in Washington, DC, and does not require a degree.
The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology coordinates the U.S. Department of Transportation's research programs and is charged with advancing rigorous analysis and the deployment of cross-cutting technologies to improve our Nation's transportation system. We are the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) Office of Transportation Analysis (OTA). BTS is the Principal Federal Statistical Agency that provides objective, comprehensive, and relevant information on the extent and use of the Nation’s transportation system, how well the system performs, and the effects of the system on society and the environment. OTA compiles statistics and indicators on the Nation’s transportation system to inform policy development and investment decisions by DOT, Congress, federal, state, and local governments and the private sector. The research projects and developmental opportunity is currently available at the U.S. Department of Transportation. The first project will play an important role in that assists in planning and conducting a broad and significant range of studies to help understand the major issues in transportation with knowledge in climate change mitigation and adaptation, that identifies gaps and inconsistencies in transportation data and provides a body of research that can be used to develop Transportation Climate Data Program and Products to aid in DOT policy creation. This will also include to do an assessment/collection of transit infrastructure that has been impacted climate change activities (flooding, extreme temperatures). The second project would be to research and compile information about travel demand models from the States and Metropolitan Planning Organization's to develop a white paper on current practices/methods from a national standpoint. We’re interested in basic model information for regional and statewide transportation models. The appointment will be served within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Office of Transportation Analysis, in Washington, DC as a Transportation and Climate Analysis Fellow.
