The Department of Cultures, Communities, and Environments in the
Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences at Coastal
Carolina University invites applications for a full-time
tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sustainability beginning in
August 2026. Area of specialization within the field of
Sustainability is open, but the candidate must be able to teach a
range of lower and upper-level courses in service to innovative
interdisciplinary B.A. and B.S degrees in Sustainability and
Coastal Resilience. We specifically seek candidates able to teach
an undergraduate introductory sustainability course, required
upper-level sustainability courses in the B.A. and B.S. programs,
and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The ability
to teach other courses that serve students in our department’s
programs, such as Geographic Information Systems ( GIS ) and
human-environment geography is also desirable.



Candidates should hold an earned Ph.D. in Sustainability,
Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, Environmental
Studies, Anthropology, Geography, or a related discipline, exhibit
scholarly promise, and possess a demonstrated record of teaching
experience and excellence. Candidates should demonstrate a
commitment to diversity, student learning, and inclusive pedagogy.
The teaching load is 6 courses over the course of an academic year,
and includes limited opportunities for periodically teaching
evening, weekend, study-abroad, summer and distance-learning
courses. The salary range is within CUPA averages.



The Department of Cultures, Communities, and Environments is home
to three interdisciplinary undergraduate programs in Anthropology
and Geography (B.A.), Sustainability and Coastal Resilience (B.A.,
B.S.), and Women’s and Gender Studies (B.A., B.S.). The department
is committed to interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experiential
education and research that fosters community engagement.

Teaches students in the classroom and/or laboratory. Prepares each
course and/or lab assigned. Communicates with students after
reviewing assignments. Tracking and reporting absences during the
designated period as directed by the Office of the Registrar.

educational effectiveness.
