Job Description

The Assistant Director of Maintenance & Energy Management at Insight Global oversees a team managing building systems, fire/life safety, and controls. Responsibilities include contract management, leadership, quality assurance, customer service, staff development, policy enforcement, project management, emergency preparedness, energy efficiency, and vendor management. The role emphasizes personnel and customer management alongside technical tasks and promotes a diverse and inclusive work environment.
· Oversees a team of 4 direct reports and 26 indirect reports across 3 shops: Building Systems Control (BSC), Fire/Life Safety, and Controls, which operate on 3 different work schedules and 2 different call schedules.
· Contract Management: Assists in preparing specifications for contract services for utility-related maintenance and repair projects.
· Leadership & Training: Provides direction, leadership, guidance, support, and training to all managers and leads.
· Quality Assurance: Ensures that contracted mechanical services meet specified results by inspecting the work performed and directing corrective action as necessary.
· Customer Service: Works with zone managers to ensure customer complaints and inquiries are resolved quickly and effectively.
· Staff Development: Assists the Director of Maintenance and Energy in developing a technically qualified staff.
· Policy Enforcement: Enforces University rules and policies regarding employee conduct.
· Project Management: Serves as project manager and coordinates utility outages and the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus utilities and facilities.
· Emergency Preparedness: Helps to reduce the likelihood of a significant disruption of utilities and assures around-the-clock responsiveness to mechanical failures or emergency situations.
· Energy Efficiency: Analyzes and directs action on complex reports, studies, and correspondence related to the fault detection and diagnostics systems that are designed to reduce energy emissions, utility costs, and greenhouse gas production.
· Vendor Management: Frequently manages outside vendors for both preventative and corrective maintenance of various systems.
· Professional Development: Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses.
· Cultural Competency: Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
