Job Description

The Nisqually River Foundation seeks an Environmental Educator through AmeriCorps for the 2026-2027 term in Washington, DC. This role involves delivering outdoor and classroom education to connect youth with local environmental issues. Responsibilities include developing instructional materials, supporting community events, and fostering stewardship among students. The position offers a monthly stipend of $3,157 and various benefits, and is open until filled.
This is an AmeriCorps/Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled.


The Nisqually River Education
Project (NREP) is a watershed education program. We provide service-learning to connect Washington state learning standards with local environmental issues. We aim to help youth develop a connection with their own watershed and inspire watershed stewardship. Our work is built on research that shows the positive impact of outdoor learning on student achievement. We work with a diverse set of partners including local schools, teachers, students, and volunteers. NREP serves over 60 teachers and more than 2,000 students each year. Activities range from scientific monitoring to habitat restoration to field investigations. Programming sites include beaches, riparian zones, wildlife refuges, salmon hatcheries, and more. The member will deliver programming through outdoor learning projects and in-class lessons. We expect to begin rolling review of applications and interviews in mid-May.
Monthly stipend amount: $3,157.


Member Duties : The NREP Environmental Educator will foster a sense of place and empower people (students in particular) to connect with their local environments. They will deliver classroom presentations and help with field experiences that are integrated to support each other; develop and adapt instructional materials; create communications materials including social media posts; assist at community events and teacher trainings.
