Job Description
Chlorum Solutions USA, LLC is seeking a Health, Environmental & Safety (HES) Specialist for their Eddyville, IA facility. The role involves developing and improving safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a safety culture. Key responsibilities include hazard identification, incident investigation, training, and maintaining safety records. Candidates should have a relevant degree and five years of HES experience, with strong organizational and communication skills.
Position Summary
The Health, Environmental & Safety (HES) Specialist supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs for the Eddyville Chlor Alkali facility. This position partners with plant leadership and employees to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support operational excellence.
The HES Specialist plays a key role in helping Chlorum maintain a safe, compliant, and high-performing manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support implementation and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
Identify workplace hazards, assess risk, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Partner with plant leadership to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities.
Support internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
Develop and deliver HES training for employees and contractors.
Monitor contractor safety performance and support safe execution of work.
Maintain HES records, reporting, and regulatory documentation.
Identify opportunities to improve safety performance, compliance, and operational reliability.
Perform other environmental, health, and safety duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Five or more years of HES experience in manufacturing, industrial, chemical, or similarly regulated environments.
Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently while building effective working relationships across the organization.
Preferred
Experience supporting chemical manufacturing or other process industries.
Experience conducting HES training, audits, and incident investigations.
Experience supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHMM, or similar credentials.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders, and access all areas of an industrial manufacturing facility.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to wear required PPE and safely work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Working Conditions
This position operates within an active chemical manufacturing facility and regularly interacts with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and leadership. Occasional overtime or schedule flexibility may be required to support audits, emergency response activities, investigations, or business needs.
