Job Description

Merjent, Inc. is hiring Field Environmental Monitors in Chicago, IL for contract positions focused on stormwater inspections and environmental compliance for energy projects. Candidates will work in remote field settings and on construction sites, ensuring compliance with environmental laws. The role requires experience in inspections, communication skills, and the ability to navigate various terrains. Compensation ranges from $35 to $45 per hour, with additional pay for overtime.
Position Summary


Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking highly motivated individuals to perform construction stormwater inspections and environmental compliance site audits in support of energy infrastructure and development projects primarily in the Chicago, IL area. The work environment will consist of remote field settings and active construction sites, which may include work in adverse weather conditions and, in some instances, irregular and/or steep terrain.


These opportunities are for hourly contract positions with an anticipated hourly wage between $35 to $45 per hour (with additional compensation over 40 hours), depending on qualifications and experience. Ideal candidates for this position will reside in or near Chicago, IL and be familiar with construction site erosion and sediment control best management practices.

Responsibilities



Interpret construction plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans to accurately document site compliance with state and federal environmental laws.
Collect, record, and manage corrective actions and site inspections for multiple construction sites.
Coordinate with project teams and construction site managers to prevent and resolve compliance issues.
Comply with industry standard and client-specific safety requirements and apply situational awareness to mitigate in-field risks.
Travel across a coverage region, with some overnight stays and weekend inspections when necessary.
Physical ability to navigate construction sites on foot, perform walking surveys over varying ground conditions, and work in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications and Experience



High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2-5 years of experience conducting inspections and preparing reports for stormwater inspections, environmental compliance, or construction-related quality control standards preferred.
Proficient with inspection documentation tools (tablets, mobile applications, etc.) and competency in using GPS or mapping technology to document site conditions.
Highly proficient communication skills for coordinating with contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
Ability to work some weekends and to work in excess of 40 hours per week during peak times.
Detail-oriented with the ability to prepare and maintain accurate inspection reports in Microsoft Word or other reporting platforms.
Self-motivated and able to work independently while managing multiple projects.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, and ownership of a vehicle for work use.
Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
