The University of New Mexico seeks a Water Systems Technician to maintain and improve campus water systems. As a Water Systems Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the quality of the campus's water systems. This position is essential for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and compliance of the University's potable water system, in line with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. You will be responsible for water sampling, chemical treatment, and overseeing the operation of various water treatment systems. Key Responsibilities:
• Water Quality Management: Collect, analyze, and interpret water samples to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations for potable water systems.
• Chemical Treatment Systems: Plan, install, and maintain chemical treatment systems for water systems including potable water, boilers, and cooling towers, ensuring safe and effective chemical feed and management.
• Water System Operation: Helps with the operation of water treatment equipment, including monitoring performance and performing minor repairs as necessary.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all systems comply with EPA and state regulations, including managing chemical inventories and handling hazardous materials safely.
• Staff Mentorship & Training: Provide guidance to lower-level water technicians on proper water treatment techniques, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Emergency Support: Participate in an on-call program to provide emergency response for issues related to the potable water system.
• Maintenance and Inspections: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of fire hydrants, reverse osmosis units, and water infrastructure to ensure proper functionality.
• Documentation & Reporting: Create detailed reports on water system performance, chemical treatment protocols, and compliance with regulations.
