Covanta is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Technician in Pasadena, CA, responsible for operational tasks, maintenance, and compliance with environmental and safety standards. The role includes conducting field tests, operating pumps, managing waste streams, and maintaining equipment. Shift work is required, with flexibility for overtime. About the Role:

The Wastewater Treatment Technician is responsible for carrying out routine operational requirements and maintenance related activities and comply with all environmental and safety requirements. This position requires the candidate to be flexible to shift and open to overtime.
• Complete work sheets and forms clearly and consistently.
• Conduct basic field tests to evaluate wastewater samples.
• Perform sample collection from bulk containers.
• Operate pumps and understand valve layouts and configurations.
• Assist and/or manage the offloading of waste streams and chemical treatment products.
• Assist in wastewater tank to tank transfers.
• Load and unload bulk tankers.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Perform cleanings of wastewater process equipment.
• Monitor the operation of all wastewater processing equipment.
• Assist and/or manage the operational performance of the wastewater equipment.
• Identify and report operating anomalies to the Operations Supervisor or Maintenance Department.
• Assist with the operation of the sludge transfer and dewatering systems.
• Operate and complete trailer rinse outs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This role involves shift work: Start at 6a, 10a and 2p - shifts are typically 8-10 hours, Monday through Friday and weekends as needed. Shifts may change with heavy workload and will be communicated with the team in advance.
Requirements:
• Wastewater certification preferred.
• Wastewater treatment experience preferred
• High School diploma/GED preferred;
• Formal training in higher level of education preferred.
• With adequate training, after being hired, be able to operate wastewater treatment equipment including but not limited to pumps, valves, filters, vessels, media change-outs, etc.
• Strong attention to details with the ability to analyze abnormalities within the processes.
• Team oriented with the ability to collaborate with others.
• Ability to thrive on hard work and demonstrate pride in a solutions-oriented, results driven environment.
• Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Physical Demands Other Requirements:
• Candidate must have the ability to work in outdoor elements/weather.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull and stand for extended periods of time.
• Climb stairs and/or ladders and pass a Functional Strength Evaluation
• Pass a Respirator Fit Test (RFT)/Pulmonary Function Test (PFT).
• Must be able to pass Basic + Training through HASC.
• Possess 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, or ability to pass the 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
