Job Description

The Washington Conservation Corps Member position at AmeriCorps in Snoqualmie, WA involves engaging in outdoor environmental projects, including habitat restoration and trail building. The Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) is an AmeriCorps program that supports young adults (ages 18-25) and military veterans as they jumpstart their careers in the environmental field. We support more than 350 AmeriCorps members and experienced staff statewide who restore critical habitat, build recreational trails, and respond to local and national disasters. All members earn a biweekly living allowance and an AmeriCorps Education Award once they successfully complete a term. For the 2024-2025 season, members will earn a living allowance of $1,441* issued twice a month. *Members with positions based in King, Snohomish, and Clark counties are eligible for a location-based elevated living allowance of $1,568 issued twice a month. Benefits for all members include health insurance, access to the Member Assistance Program (accessible and quality mental health services), and three weeks of paid, professional training. Most of our AmeriCorps positions are 11-month field-crew positions where members serve on a crew of five, led by a WCC crew supervisor. We offer limited nine-month and three-month positions in spring and summer. We also offer 11-month Individual Placement positions, where members serve independently with natural resources organizations.

Member Duties : This crew serves with Snoqualmie Tribe’s Environmental Natural Resources Department, King County Parks, and Seattle Public Utilities in the Cedar River Watershed. This crew meets in Snoqualmie, Washington off Interstate 90. This crew supports riparian restoration and trail projects. Riparian restoration projects will include the staging and installation of native plant species, with potential for monitoring and surveying opportunities, as well as site maintenance such as mowing, noxious weed control, and mulching. Trail projects will include hand building soft surface trails, trail maintenance, as well as building and maintaining trail structures (puncheons, turnpikes, retaining walls, etc.), and staging materials for projects. With the Snoqualmie Tribe there may be opportunities to learn about tribal government and the Snoqualmie Tribe’s role in the recovery of culturally significant salmonid species such as Chinook and Kokanee in the local river basins.
