Job Description
Covanta is seeking a Utility Operator for their Power Plant in the U.S. The role involves operating and maintaining ash handling and metal recovery equipment, participating in boiler cleanings, and performing general housekeeping. A high school diploma is preferred, and candidates should be able to work in high temperatures and noisy environments. This is a full-time position with no specific degree required.

About the Role
The Utility Operator is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of ash handling and metal recovery equipment in the Residue Storage and Processing Building (RSPB) area.
• Perform routine operations/inspections of ash and metal recovery equipment.
• Maintain and clean all systems related to ash removal and conditioning, magnets, non-ferrous recovery, conveyors, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
• Participate in boiler cleanings.
• Complete required training within assigned timelines.
• Train to be qualified as Equipment Operator.
• Perform general housekeeping of work areas and assist in routine maintenance as required.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
Position Requirements:
• A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other procedure manuals.
• Ability to log onto a computer and complete online assigned training.
Working Conditions:
• Frequently exposed to high temperatures and outside weather conditions.
• Working near moving machinery as well as noisy and dusty environments; must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Climbing ladders and structures; must be able to tolerate heights.
• Frequently required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
