Purpose

The mission of UT Farm Stand is to promote a local and sustainable food system to the UT Austin community. With two sustainable food gardens, a biweekly farmer's market, and a strong zero waste focus, UT Farm Stand is supported by three pillars: Farm, Table and Waste. Rooted in experiential education, UT Farm Stand provides students with diverse opportunities to develop their professional skills while advancing sustainability on campus.

This position focuses specifically on market operations and offers hands-on experience in local food systems, event planning, and sustainable retail practices. Market Assistants are responsible for helping run the biweekly UT Farm Stand market, including setup and takedown, vendor coordination, customer engagement, and on-site troubleshooting. Additional responsibilities include managing product ordering and inventory, conducting campus outreach and marketing, sales data analysis, and supporting the planning and execution of related events.

By working with the Market team, students gain practical experience in sustainable food systems, small-scale retail management, and community engagement. This role is ideal for students passionate about local food, sustainability, and event coordination.

Responsibilities
• UT Farm Stand Market Assistants will have a primary focus in market programing, though there will be opportunities available in zero waste and gardens.
• Improve the efficiency of UT Farm Stand's market operations and logistics
• Assist with product ordering, inventory, and vendor coordination
• Set up and run the biweekly UT Farm Stand market, including customer service and sales
• Attend weekly meetings related to market planning and UT Farm Stand programs
• Assist with outreach to campus partners and departments to promote the market and sustainability goals
• Maintain and expand UT Farm Stand's social media and campus presence through targeted market promotions
• Support the planning and execution of market-related events and campaigns
• Create marketing materials to advertise the market and educate the UT community on local and sustainable food systems

Required Qualifications
• Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Texas at Austin.
• Must be available to work a full semester in the position.
• There is no prior experience required; only a willingness to work hard and a passion for sustainability.

Compensation

$13.00 per hour

Working Conditions
• This position is in-person, primarily at outdoor UT Farm Stand markets and related events in the on campus gardens. Some office work in the Sustainability Student Office will also be required.
• Garden and market work is typically performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, wind, light rain, and seasonal temperature changes.
• Position may require frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials such as tables, tents, crates of produce, and boxes of supplies (generally up to 25-40 lbs with or without accommodation).

Work Shift
• Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm with some weekend work as requested. Positions are for up to 15 hours per week
