Traffic/Transportation Planning and Operations Team Leader | Bedford, NH

VHB’s Bedford, NH office has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, highly organized, Traffic / Transportation Planning and Operations Leader to join our team of planners, engineers, and scientists.

As the Transportation Planning and Operations Team Leader, this person will lead a diverse team of transportation planning, engineering, and design professionals focused on developing innovative solutions, driving project success, expanding market growth within New Hampshire, and supporting growth across New England. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership, communication, business development and technical skills, committed to enhancing transportation systems and delivering high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage a team of multimodal transportation engineers, planners, and related professionals in the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of complex transportation projects.
• Develop and execute strategic business plans to drive growth.
• Generate new business development opportunities, foster existing client relationships, and lead winning pursuits.
• Oversee project delivery processes to ensure quality, innovation, and adherence to industry standards and client expectations.
• Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including safety, land development, environmental, and sustainability experts, to integrate diverse perspectives and solutions into transportation projects.
• Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support for professional growth.
• Support the office's annual business plan and oversee the achievement of its business goals.

Skills and Abilities
• Experienced in various transportation systems elements such as planning, PD&E, traffic operations, and traffic engineering
• Must have a demonstrated track record and the ability to oversee a team of engineering and planning professionals.
• Must be knowledgeable in a broad range of transportation engineering and planning topics, spanning both the public and private sectors with a demonstrated ability to think and act strategically.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, including the ability to mentor staff while successfully managing complex, multiple disciplinary projects
• Must be a highly motivated self-starter
• Ability to support business development activities including identifying new project opportunities, proposal development, and general client development activities.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong presentation skills

Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in transportation engineering and/or planning
• A track record of successful team leadership, project and client management
• Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field. A master’s degree is desirable.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or AICP certification is required.
• Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) is a plus.
• Strong understanding of transportation systems, including roadways/highways, transit, and active transportation infrastructure.
• Experience leading multimodal transportation planning and operations projects, corridor studies, and traffic impact studies within New Hampshire and/or across New England.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
