VHB is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support water quality and stormwater regulatory compliance in Portland, ME or Bedford, NH. Overview
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB's growing team is looking to add an Environmental Scientist to support its growing work in water quality and stormwater regulatory compliance. This is an exciting opportunity could be located in either Bedford, NH or Portland, ME and provide the chance to work with a supportive, innovative team of multidisciplinary professionals.
Responsibilities
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data to support water quality studies and plans
• Provide support for stormwater regulatory compliance programs for state and local government clients
• Perform field investigations including, but not limited to, stormwater system inspections, construction site inspections, stormwater system mapping, and water quality sampling
• Develop data management tools in ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Online
• Develop innovative approaches for internal and client workflows
• Prepare technical reports, graphics, and guidance documents
• Support the development of federal, state, and local permit applications
• Support stormwater program funding approaches, including preparing grant applications and developing stormwater enterprise funds
Skills and Abilities
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication and oral presentation skills
• Highly motivated and team oriented with strong capability to motivate others
• Ability to solve problems and think creatively
• Exceptional attention to detail, planning, and quality of deliverables
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Familiarity with EPA Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations, including the MS4 General Permit in New Hampshire, Construction General Permit, and Muli-Sector General Permit
• Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and spatial database development preferred
• Experience with coding languages such as R, Python, and ArcGIS Arcade preferred
• Data visualization and graphic design skills
• Familiarity with hydrologic processes, water quality treatment mechanisms, and drainage system design concepts a plus
• Ability to travel throughout New Hampshire regularly, and throughout New England occasionally
Minimum Qualifications
• BS/BA in environmental science, environmental studies, civil/environmental engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience required experience in environmental consulting but 5-8 years of professional experience preferred
• Experience in supervisory or mentorship roles preferred
• Valid driver's license
