Purpose and Scope
This is a trading lead role responsible for driving electricity trading activities and managing a team of traders to deliver consistent commercial outcomes with strong risk discipline. The role partners closely with the AVP, Power Generation & Retail and cross-functional stakeholders across the portfolio. The Trading function is part of the Power Generation & Retail organisation structure.
This role will lead a team of electricity traders in the execution of trading strategies and market participation activities to optimise portfolio value, ensuring robust governance, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Desk Leadership & Trading Execution
Lead day-to-day electricity trading execution, ensuring timely, high-quality decisions across relevant time horizons (e.g., intra-day, day-ahead, short-term, and term where applicable).
Set daily/weekly desk priorities, ensure coverage discipline, and act as escalation point for market events and position management.
Drive post-trade and post-event reviews to improve decision quality and performance.
Team Management
Manage, coach, and develop a team of electricity traders, building capability in fundamentals, judgment, and disciplined execution.
Set performance expectations and measurable goals; run structured performance check-ins and capability development plans.
Ensure consistent adherence to desk standards (controls, playbooks, review cadence, documentation).
Strategy Translation & Portfolio Alignment
Translate portfolio objectives into executable desk-level trading strategies, ensuring alignment with operational realities and commercial exposures.
Work closely with relevant internal stakeholders to incorporate asset constraints, availability, and portfolio needs into trading decisions.
Risk Management, Controls & Governance
Operate within approved risk limits and governance frameworks; monitor exposures and escalate breaches/near-breaches appropriately.
Strengthen trading controls and discipline (approvals, position monitoring, limit utilisation, reporting cadence).
Ensure audit readiness and strong operational controls across the trading lifecycle.
Market Operations & Compliance
Oversee end-to-end processes supporting trading, including bid submissions, confirmations, settlement coordination, and issue resolution.
Ensure compliance with market rules and internal operating procedures; act as senior escalation for operational incidents.
Analytics, Digitalisation & Continuous Improvement
Drive practical improvements to trading effectiveness through better analytics, dashboards, automation, and process redesign.
Partner with digital/data teams to reduce manual workflows and improve decision support (forecasting, scenario analysis, backtesting where relevant).
Senior Stakeholder Advisory
Provide clear, structured updates to the management team on market conditions, desk performance drivers, and key risks/opportunities.
Support management discussions by presenting concise narratives backed by data and clear decision options.
Qualifications & Experience
A degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Strong experience in electricity trading and/or market operations within power and gas trading or trading house with physical exposure.
Demonstrated experience leading a trading desk or managing traders
Strong understanding of wholesale electricity market dynamics, trading operations, and risk discipline, particularly in Singapore/similar markets.
Skills, Competences and Preferred Characteristics
Strong commercial judgment and disciplined risk mindset
Proven people leader (coaching, performance management, team operating rhythm)
Able to operate effectively within structured governance / approval environments
Clear communicator with senior stakeholders; capable of translating market complexity into decisions
