Job Description

The Townsville City Council is hiring a Technical Officer for Environmental Restoration Biosecurity. This permanent full-time role requires a degree in relevant fields and involves implementing natural resource management strategies, managing biosecurity projects, and preparing reports. The position is based in Townsville, Australia, with a salary range of $87,024 - $90,825 per annum. Candidates must have specific licenses and knowledge in biosecurity and environmental management.

About The Role

This role will support the implementation of natural resource management strategies, policies, plans and programs including responsibilities devolved to Local Government under the Biosecurity Act.

This will include preparing, submitting and acquitting funding applications and delivering on assigned Biosecurity related projects applying sound project management methodologies. You will also undertake the required research and analysis and prepare articulate audience centric reports, briefing notes, memos, business cases, presentations and other documents relating to biosecurity activities.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

Mandatory
• Degree qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Rural Science, Applied Science, Agriculture or equivalent experience.
• Current Manual “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
• Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD).
• Current 'Blue Card' to work with children, as regulated by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000, or ability to gain.
• Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control Act License
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in biosecurity strategy and plan implementation, including providing expert advice on biosecurity management issues.
• Working knowledge and proficiency in the Biosecurity Act, Vegetation Management Act and associated plans, strategies, policies, local laws and procedures.

Desirable
• Ability to prepare written reports including project evaluations, funding submissions and management plans.
• Sound knowledge and experience in the identification of pest plants and pest animals, control techniques and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in implementing community-based approaches to Natural resource management.
• Vertebrate Pesticide License.
• Pest Management Technician License.
• Marine License.
• Authorised Officer Accreditation, or ability to obtain.
• First Aid Certificate.
