Job Description
Certain Advantage is seeking a Technical Officer for Environmental Protection in Crewe and Newcastle-Under-Lyme. This role involves conducting inspections, investigations, and providing technical support related to environmental legislation. Candidates should have relevant qualifications and experience in environmental protection, communication skills, and data handling. The position is a full-time, 6-month contract with a pay of around £43 per hour, requiring 3 years of experience.
Technical Assistant – Environmental Protection Newcastle-Under-Lyme Circa £43 per hour Initially 6-month contract (long-term thereafter) 37 hours per week Certain Advantage is working in partnership with a local authority to recruit a Technical Assistant with experience in environmental protection and regulatory services. This vital role supports the Environmental Protection Team in upholding environmental legislation and safeguarding public health through inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions. Key Responsibilities: Conduct field inspections, investigations, and provide technical support across areas such as air quality, contaminated land, private water supplies, and industrial process regulation. Handle statutory nuisance complaints and pollution-linked anti-social behaviour cases. Deliver professional advice to planning and licensing teams in line with current environmental regulations. Prepare reports, legal case files, and evidence for courts, tribunals, and hearings, and represent the Council at meetings or public inquiries as needed. Maintain and update technical documentation, records, and compliance data. Your Background: Relevant technical or environmental qualification (e.g. environmental science, public health, or related field). Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation, including contaminated land, water safety, and pollution control. Strong communication and report writing skills; experience preparing evidence and documentation for legal proceedings is a plus. Proficient in data handling, analysis, and use of Microsoft Office and related environmental systems. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively.
