Job Description
AIA Seattle seeks a Sustainable Design Specialist with 2-5 years of experience in sustainable design. With two studios bookending the West Coast in Seattle and San Diego, our work spans a wide range of project types including houses and cabins, mixed-use multifamily developments, corporate office buildings and towers, laboratories, K-12 schools, higher education buildings, city halls, community centers, libraries, fire stations, airports, international border crossings, and embassies.

• A professional degree in Architecture, Engineering, Sustainable Design, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of relevant post-graduate experience in sustainable design or building performance.
• A strong understanding of sustainable design frameworks, building systems, and performance metrics.
• Experience with LEED certification processes, sustainability documentation, data management, sustainability modeling and analysis tools.
• A deep curiosity about sustainability’s relationship to broader issues, a passion for continuous learning, and a commitment to pushing new design frontiers at the intersection of social equity and environmental sustainability.
• Credentials: LEED AP with specialty, LFA, WELL, or similar are strongly encouraged.
What You’ll Do
As a team member with us your responsibilities will include…
• Leading and supporting project documentation and coordination for sustainability certifications, including LEED, Living Future programs and more, across multiple office locations.
• Interpret and apply relevant codes and policies, including CALGreen, Title 24, California Energy Code, and the Buy Clean California Act.
• Reviewing and analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and project manuals to ensure alignment with sustainability objectives.
• Performing building performance analyses, including energy modeling, day lighting studies, and Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments (WBLCA).
• Utilizing sustainability analysis tools such as Climate Studio, Insight, Tally LCA, and EC3 to inform design decisions.
• Developing data-driven insights using visualization tools like Tableau, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Providing expertise in key sustainability focus areas such as energy modeling, building performance simulation, regenerative site design, biodiversity, resilience, and day lighting.
• Facilitating internal and client-facing workshops to communicate sustainability strategies and outcomes.

The base annual salary range for this position is between $69,000 and $90,000 and does not include the value of bonuses, profit-sharing, and other benefits noted above.
