Job Description
The University of Delaware is seeking Sustainability Interns for Summer 2025 to work on electric vehicle initiatives. Interns will conduct research, outreach, and data analysis to promote sustainable transportation on campus. The role involves both independent and collaborative work under the guidance of the Director of Sustainability. The position is based on the UD campus in Newark, DE, but interns may also work virtually. Pay is $15/hour for 10-15 hours per week.
Anticipated Start Date: ASAP
Rate of Pay: $15/hour
Schedule: Average hours of 10-15 hours per week. Dates and schedule will be finalized during the hiring process.

Role Description:
The Climate Change Hub and the Office of Sustainability (OS) at the University of Delaware (UD) are seeking 5 passionate and motivated individual to fill the Sustainability Intern, Electric Vehicles role and join a team of Interns focused on moving UD in a sustainable direction. This position is expected to be both independent work and able to collaborative work depending on the project. Interns work under the direction of the Director of Sustainability and may also be asked to receive guidance from the Sustainability Council, faculty and staff at UD, depending on the project. The Sustainability interns on this team will conduct research, analyses, outreach to fellow students, and compile information to enhance electric vehicles across UD. The Sustainable Interns will be based in a dedicated space on the UD campus and may also work virtually. This internship is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain practical experience in the sustainability field and make a tangible impact on their university community.
Responsibilities:
• Work with various UD entities to promote, market, and help optimize existing alternative transportation programs.
• Identify opportunities to influence the campus community to use sustainable transportation.
• Survey and gather feedback on EV usage on campus, EV charging station usage, EV parking and fleet electrification.
• Analyze data and interpret results that pertain to EV use, EV parking,carbon per mile metrics, and UD vehicle fleet optimization.
• Search and identify grants, rebates, funding and financing options for alternative fuel vehicles.
• Work with various vendors and University entities to improve, enhance, promote and advertise their Sustainable transportation efforts.
• Promote, outreach, engage and communicate with various UD student organizations and affiliations to disseminate information as well as aggregate feedback on issues pertaining to sustainable transportation.
Qualifications:
• A proven ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff. Ability to take directions, follow instructions, and constructive feedback.
• Ability to analyze situations, think creatively, and propose innovative solutions to sustainability challenges. Familiarity with collecting and interpreting data on sustainability efforts, environmental policies, and trends is a plus.
• Ability to positively engage with all aspects of the campus community, particularly students.
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Prompt, thorough, and concise communication.
• Keen interest in environmental issues and a desire to help foster positive change within the University of Delaware. No specific academic major is required; however, a basic understanding of sustainability concepts and current environmental challenges is essential.
Requirements:
This will be a 5-week program where the team of interns will develop a proposal and presentation for a campus sustainability project on electric vehicles. Students are expected to dedicate 15 hours of quality work each week to the project over this period. We will meet weekly as a team, and will also meet with experts in the field, but much of the work will be independent and asynchronous. There is a possibility for both on and off campus work, but we would like to have part of the team who will be on campus. The internship pays $15/hr and may satisfy requirements for may also be used for field experience in some majors.
