Job Description

The Student Climate Specialist at Bridgeport Public Schools will work 4 days a week for 4.75 hours a day to create a welcoming and supportive environment for adult learners. Responsibilities include building relationships, guiding students, and promoting a positive school climate through collaboration with staff and security. 4-DAYS A WEEK/4.75-HOURS A DAY, 38-WEEKS

$30.00 PER HOUR

Position Overview

The Student Climate Specialist helps create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for adult learners. This role centers on building positive relationships, guiding students in making constructive choices, and fostering a sense of community throughout the building. The specialist works collaboratively with staff, administrators, and security personnel to promote a positive school climate where all students feel respected, engaged, and safe.

Key Responsibilities

Positive School Climate & Student SupportMaintain a warm, consistent presence in hallways, common areas, and high-traffic spaces to promote a calm and supportive atmosphere.Engage with students throughout the day to build rapport, encourage participation, and contribute to a respectful school culture.Offer guidance and redirection when needed, using positive communication strategies to help students stay focused and successful in the program.Support transitions between classes and assist students with questions, concerns, or resource needs.Partner with security staff in a collaborative, student-centered way to ensure smooth daily operations and a welcoming environment for all.Restorative Practices & Community BuildingFoster strong relationships with students by using restorative and strengths-based approaches.Help students navigate conflicts by facilitating restorative conversations, mediations, and reflective dialogues that encourage understanding and accountability.Reinforce skills such as respectful communication, empathy, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.Support teachers and staff in implementing restorative routines, such as classroom circles or community-building activities.Encourage positive student behavior through consistency, encouragement, and proactive engagement.Qualifications

Experience working with diverse adult populations, preferably in an educational or community-based setting.Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.Ability to respond calmly, thoughtfully, and respectfully in a variety of situations.Knowledge of restorative practices or willingness to be trained.Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Bilingual skills are a plus.Physical & Work Environment Requirements
