The (Sr.) Applications Engineer provides technical expertise to support Canadian Solar’s energy storage solutions. This position will be responsible for the pre-sales activities of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) including system sizing, preliminary design, and value engineering. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of BESS integration, specifically with experience developing and delivering energy storage systems for utility-scale projects.

This role will require the chosen candidate to work closely with the commercial and engineering teams to build proposals for new storage project opportunities and provide exemplary technical support to respond to customer needs. A senior level position will be considered for candidates with the right experience.

Responsibilities:
• Be a technical liaison for the Sales team to customers and partners, and an expert resource for general product specifications and value engineering discussions.
• Analyze RFPs and other customer documents to determine project scope, schedule, specifications, risk, and technical requirements.
• Develop size models and conceptual drawings sets (electrical single-line diagrams, site layouts, etc.).
• Prepare technical documentation for proposals and coordinate the bid package preparation with other departments.
• Work closely with sales staff, engineering, and procurement to ensure complete and shared project understanding and priorities.
• Conduct technical presentations and provide clarifications to customers and other departments.
• Execute technical exhibits for equipment supply and service contracts.
• Assess requirements and methodologies for integrating BESS systems into new and existing renewable projects.
• Contribute to the product development cycle by issuing market sensing summaries after engaging with industry stakeholders.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical)
• Minimum 3 years of direct experience in battery energy storage systems or utility-scale solar, preferably as an applications engineer.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or related software.
• Exceptional technical aptitude including the ability to read and fully understand engineering schematics, technical advisory reports, and technology reviews.
• Solid understanding of UL regulatory standards related to energy storage and grid-interactive inverters.
• Global perspective and awareness, and direct experience working across diverse cultures in a multinational company would be beneficial.
• An excellent time manager, able to balance multiple projects and prioritize a broad variety of issues, initiatives, and objectives concurrently.
