The Applications Engineer provides technical expertise to support Canadian Solar’s energy storage solutions. This position will be responsible for the pre-sales activities of utility-scale and commercial & Industrial (C&I) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) including system sizing, preliminary design, and value engineering. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of BESS integration, specifically with experience developing and delivering energy storage systems for C&I applications, and critical power solutions for enhancing data center reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.

This role will require the chosen candidate to work closely with the commercial and engineering teams to help develop proposals for new storage project opportunities and provide technical support to respond to customer needs. A senior level position will be considered for candidates with the right experience.

Responsibilities:
• Be a technical liaison for the Sales team to customers and partners, and an expert resource for general product specifications and value engineering discussions.
• Analyze RFP or other customer documentation to determine project scope, schedule, specifications, risk, and technical requirements.
• Develop size models and conceptual drawings sets (electrical single-line diagrams, site layouts, etc.).
• Prepare technical documentation for proposals and coordinate the bid package preparation with other departments.
• Work closely with sales staff, engineering, and procurement to ensure complete and shared project understanding and priorities.
• Conduct technical presentations and provide clarifications to customers and other departments.
• Execute technical exhibits for supply and commissioning contracts.
• Assessing requirements and methodologies for integrating new BESS projects into existing PV systems.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical)
• Direct experience in battery energy storage systems, utility-scale solar, or renewable critical power solutions, preferably as an applications engineer.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or related software.
• Exceptional technical aptitude including the ability to read and fully understand engineering schematics, technical advisory reports, and technology reviews.
• Solid understanding of UL regulatory standards related to energy storage and grid-interactive inverters.
• Global perspective and awareness, and direct experience working across diverse cultures in a multinational company would be beneficial.
• An excellent time manager, able to balance multiple projects and prioritize a broad variety of issues, initiatives, and objectives concurrently.
