Job Description

Circular Materials is seeking a Specialist in Packaging Sustainability to support sustainability initiatives in the recycling industry. The role involves developing and managing projects to enhance recycling processes, promoting sustainable packaging, and collaborating with stakeholders. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience, with strong analytical, communication, and project management skills. This position is fully remote and based in Canada.
OVERVIEW

Reporting to Director, Program Strategy & Innovation, the Specialist, Packaging Sustainability will play an integral role in supporting projects that promote long-term sustainability and innovation in the recycling industry.

The incumbent will support the Program Strategy and Innovation team by developing and managing sustainability initiatives aimed at improving recycling programs and driving innovation. This role requires a proactive and analytical individual with a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, manage and implement a variety of projects that innovate and optimize recycling processes for packaging and printed paper.

Create and promote sustainable packaging strategies that enhance recyclability and minimize environmental impact.

Collaborate with Producers to increase the use of recyclable and recycled packaging and materials to support a circular economy.

Collect, analyze, and report on sustainability metrics and project outcomes.

Conduct research on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in the packaging and recycling industry.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote sustainability and design for recyclability initiatives.

Ensure all projects adhere to relevant environmental regulations and standards.

Develop educational materials and programs to raise awareness about recycling and sustainability.

Leverage business, market, and regulatory information to make data-driven recommendations.

Be a champion of collaboration, by proactively working with relevant stakeholders to mobilize teams and bring all partners together through open dialogues to drive towards a common goal/approach.

Make complex concepts simple and engaging for various audiences.

Ability to quickly shift priorities.

Administrate meetings and external working groups including moderating the conversation, setting the meeting tone and purpose and keep on-track to the agenda, ensuring productivity.

Actively embraces change efforts and acts as a change agent to build awareness and vision including the creation of supporting documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

Three to five years’ related work experience

Experience in sustainability or environmental management, preferably in the retail, CPG or Packaging industry.

Knowledge/Competencies/Skills

Well-developed planning and project management skills.

Extremely detail-oriented, self-starter, deadline-driven.

Receptive and adaptive to an evolving, fast-paced environment.

Ability to conduct research and detailed analysis and provide summaries and recommendations.

Strong analytics and problem-solving skills with the ability to drive innovation.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to prepare clear and concise administrative and technical reports.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively create and implement project plans.

Research and prepare effective education and information materials.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining relationships with keys stakeholders, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and presenting ideas to stakeholders.

Analytical mindset, proficient in using data to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvements.

Leverages cross functional partners to develop and implement programs which foster engagement.

WORKING CONDITIONS

All CM employees work 40 hours per week, remotely from a home office environment.
