Job Description
Arup is seeking a Senior/Principal Transport Planner in Southampton to lead transport planning for development projects and urban initiatives. Responsibilities include developing transport strategies, advising on sustainable mobility, managing project scopes and budgets, mentoring junior staff, and engaging with local authorities. Experteer Overview
In this role, you will lead and shape transport planning for development projects and large urban initiatives within Arup’s Transport Consulting team. You will develop integrated transport strategies, advise on active and sustainable mobility, and mentor junior colleagues while managing project scope, budget, and client relationships. You’ll work across regeneration, masterplanning, and major infrastructure with a strong emphasis on bus planning and policy-informed design. This is a senior, collaborative role that combines technical assurance, design input, and business development to deliver impactful transport outcomes.

• Develop transport strategies justified through design and planning processes

Tasks
• UK Planning experience
• Experience leading transport and development planning work (early-stage advice, design development, submissions)
• Interest in Net Zero and sustainable mobility
• Bus planning, strategy or operations experience
• Ability to analyse, model and assess future transport demand; apply design guidance to schemes
• Experience negotiating transport strategies with local authorities and justifying positions
• Project management skills (programme, budget, quality, commercial)
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to articulate complex problems and build client relationships
