Senior Peatland Conservation Officer


Location: Primarily at our Headquarters in Kendal, with some on-site working required in line with the needs of the role.


Salary: £36,272 per annum, plus pension contribution of 9%


About the Role


As Senior Peatland Officer, you will support the delivery and development of the Trust’s peatland work, ensuring it contributes meaningfully to landscape-scale nature recovery. A core part of your role will be leading on project monitoring and evaluation, ensuring restoration activities achieve their intended ecological outcomes.


You’ll work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team, helping to manage key aspects of the programme and contributing to the long-term recovery of Cumbria’s peatland habitats.


About You


We’re looking for someone who brings energy, initiative, and a genuine enthusiasm for conservation. You will have:



Essential experience in peatland restoration, including practical delivery and a strong understanding of peatland ecology, habitats, and management principles.
Experience in ecological surveying and biological recording.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong self‑motivation and a positive approach.
A good understanding of monitoring and evaluation within conservation projects.
Desirable: Knowledge of GIS mapping systems and their application in habitat management.
