The role involves ensuring compliance with safety standards, conducting audits, and improving safety programs. Airswift is looking for a Safety/EHS Specialist to work for a major Chemical company in Lake Charles, LA, for an initial 9-months assignment with high possibility of being extended.

The Safety Specialist plays a key role in ensuring site-wide compliance and advancing continuous improvement initiatives within the facility’s safety and management systems. This position is responsible for conducting procedure reviews, evaluating regulatory alignment, identifying compliance gaps, and supporting both internal audits and Responsible Care® 14001 activities.

Working closely with operations, safety, and site leadership teams, the Safety Specialist strengthens field execution, enhances documentation quality, and helps drive a culture of safety excellence across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead formal gap analyses against Responsible Care® 14001 and applicable OSHA regulations.
• Review, update, and improve safety programs, procedures, and written documentation.
• Evaluate field practices to ensure consistency with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
• Develop, manage, and track corrective action plans through full closure.
• Support internal audits, RC14001 assessments, and management system reviews.
• Analyze incident and audit trends to identify systemic improvement opportunities.
• Prepare clear, detailed written reports with findings and recommendations.
• Monitor regulatory and industry standard updates, ensuring timely program revisions.
• Partner with operations and leadership to implement sustainable compliance enhancements.
• Maintain organized and accurate compliance documentation and records.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA (29 CFR 1910) requirements.
• Familiarity with Responsible Care® 14001 management systems and audit processes.
• Ability to interpret regulatory and convert it into actionable procedures.
• Experience performing structured compliance audits and detailed gap assessments.
• Strong analytical, problem?solving, and critical?thinking abilities.
• High attention to detail with excellent document control skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting findings and leading discussions.
• Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and compliance tracking systems.
• Strong procedure writing skills with working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI standards.
• Process knowledge, including the ability to read PFDs, P&IDs, and one-line drawings.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of confidently leading safety meetings with site personnel.

Work Experience, Education & Certifications
• Experience: 5–7 years of experience in industrial safety, regulatory compliance, or management systems.
• experience in petrochemical, refining, chemical manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.
• Background supporting RC14001 implementation or auditing is highly valued.
• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field .
• Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
• Certifications: BCSP credentials (CSP, ASP, CHST, etc.) .
• RC14001 auditor training or other management system certifications a plus.
