Job Description
Scripps Health is seeking a full-time Environmental Safety Officer for their La Jolla, California location. The role involves developing safety programs, serving as a resource for safety committees, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a clinical or acute care setting and possess strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations. Weekend availability and flexibility are required.
Located on the Torrey Pines Mesa near I-5 and Genesee Avenue in La Jolla, Scripps Green Hospital has served the greater San Diego community since 1977. We provide some of the region’s best care, including several nationally ranked specialty programs.

This is a full-time exempt position, Monday-Friday with weekend availability required as needed. Flexibility is a must. This position is located at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla.

The Environmental Safety Officer acts as an "internal consultant" on environmental safety-related matters.
As the Environmental Safety Officer your duties will include:
• Helping develop and maintain systems and programs to assure a comprehensive Workplace Safety and Environment of Care management program as outlined in the standards found within The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory guidelines regarding environmental safety aspects related to healthcare settings within the State of California.
• Serve as staff resource to appropriate committees for environmental and occupational safety and to local (appointing unit) and system-wide Safety Committee and Emergency Management Committee.
• Integrating and coordinating all efforts with other organizational staff resources while educating staff on safe working practices and safety-related issues.
• Ensuring policies, procedures and activities are in place to comply with regulatory agencies.
• Assuming the position of Safety Officer and advisor to the Incident Commander during times of disaster and emergent operations.
• Serving as the "coordinator" of the site(s) Safety Management and Hazardous Materials, Waste and Communications Management Programs (HAZMAT/COM).

Required Experience/Specialized Skills:
• Required 5 or more years' experience in clinical environment and/or acute care healthcare setting in an environmental safety program position and/or support role within the environmental safety community.
• Must have expert knowledge of safety, environmental regulations, hazardous material management and communication, experience with education of staff, loss-prevention programs, accident/hazard investigation, sanitation, industrial hygiene, CQI tools, and micro-computer programs.
• Demonstrated experience with statistical analysis and reporting.
• If employee is required to drive a company vehicle as part of their duties an active CA Driver's license would be required.
Required Certification/Registration:
• Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), within one year of hire.
Preferred Education/Course(s)/Training:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Healthcare Environmental Manager certification (HEM).
• Certified Environmental Infection Control Consultant (CEICC).
• Knowledge of healthcare construction and associated standards, including but not limited to TJC Standards, NFPA, OSHA (Cal-OSHA), OSHPD, occupational health and infection control. Experience with education of adults, loss-prevention programs, accident/hazard investigation, sanitation, industrial hygiene, CQI tools, and micro-computer programs.

Position Pay Range: $45.16-$65.61/hour
