Job Description

The Agricultural Research Council is hiring a Researcher for Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Modelling in Pretoria Central. The role involves preparing project proposals, conducting independent research on GHG fluxes, technology transfer activities, publishing research, and mentoring junior staff. A PhD in relevant fields and a strong research background are required. The position is full-time and may require travel.

Prepare and submit winning project proposals in collaboration with other scientists to research funders.
Conduct independent research on greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes from the Agriculture, Forestry and other Land Use (AFOLU) sector
Conduct technology transfer activities related to carbon management in the AFOLU sector contribute towards development and updating of climate services for the agricultural sector.
Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, newsletters and other media.
Mentor junior research staff and students/interns.


Requirements


PhD in Agrometeorology / Meteorology / Agriculture / Environmental Science.
Proven ability to conduct and supervise greenhouse gas emissions research.
The candidate must have a proven research background in agriculture and climate related disciplines.
Good publication record in greenhouse gas emissions research
Track record of attracting externally funded research projects.
Ability to work with communities.
Willingness to travel away from home for intermediate periods.
Good communication skills (written and verbal).
Valid driver's licence (code 8/EB).
