Job Description

The Agricultural Research Council is seeking a Researcher for Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Modelling on a 4-year fixed-term contract in Pretoria, South Africa. Responsibilities include preparing project proposals, conducting independent research on GHG fluxes, mentoring junior staff, and publishing research. Candidates should have a PhD in relevant fields, a strong research background, and good communication skills. The role requires willingness to travel and is not remote.
• Prepare and submit winning project proposals in collaboration with other scientists to research funders.
• Conduct independent research on greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes from the Agriculture, Forestry and other Land Use (AFOLU) sector
• Conduct technology transfer activities related to carbon management in the AFOLU sector contribute towards development and updating of climate services for the agricultural sector.
• Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, newsletters and other media.
• Mentor junior research staff and students/interns.
• PhD in Agrometeorology / Meteorology / Agriculture / Environmental Science.
• Proven ability to conduct and supervise greenhouse gas emissions research.
• The candidate must have a proven research background in agriculture and climate related disciplines.
• Good publication record in greenhouse gas emissions research
• Track record of attracting externally funded research projects.
• Ability to work with communities.
• Willingness to travel away from home for intermediate periods.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal).
• Valid driver’s licence (code 8/EB).
