Job Description

Ulteig is hiring a Renewable Electrical Design Engineer to support utility-scale renewable projects, focusing on battery energy storage systems and wind projects. Responsibilities include creating design packages, performing electrical studies, and collaborating with project teams. Candidates need a degree in Electrical Engineering and relevant experience. This position can be remote from anywhere in the US or from Ulteig's offices, with up to 15% travel required.

The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking talented and motivated Renewable Electrical Design Engineers. In this role, you will support the design of utility-scale renewable projects nationwide on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and or wind projects. This role will be a strategic contributor to the growth of our Renewables Lifeline Sector. Qualified candidates will be considered to work remote from any location in the US, or if candidate chooses may work from any of Ulteig's existing office locations.

What You'll Do
• Create and review detailed design packages, including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, grounding layouts, and protection systems for BESS and wind projects.
• Perform electrical studies such as cable ampacity, energy loss, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and grounding analysis.
• Select and specify key electrical components such as transformers, switch gear, inverters, relays, and batteries.
• Work closely with internal project teams, external contractors, and equipment vendors to deliver complete and buildable designs.
• Assist with utility interconnection applications and ensure compliance with applicable codes (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA).
• Provide technical guidance during construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure the design intent is achieved in the field.
• Keep up to date with evolving BESS and wind technologies, codes, and standards to incorporate best practices into designs.

What We Expect from You
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering required, ABET-accredited program, or equivalent required
• Engineer in Training (EIT) status or working towards EIT status.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in power systems, with detailed design of Renewable BESS or Wind projects strongly preferred.
• Experience with engineering software such as ETAP, Easypower, CYME, AutoCAD, CDEGS, or similar is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others
• Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
• Due to the dynamic nature of the renewable energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
• Knowledge of BESS and or Wind systems, NEC and NESC requirements, and construction practices is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• The position requires the ability to effectively multitask and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
• Ability to maintain project schedule and achieve target due dates.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients, and external agencies
• Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in a High-paced environment while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
• If working remotely must have reliable high-speed internet capabilities.
• Up to 15% travel required.
• Must have the ability to work permanently in the US.
