Job Description

TasNetworks is seeking a Principal/Senior Technical Standards Engineer in Cambridge, WA, responsible for providing leadership and expert advice on transmission and distribution assets. The role involves developing standards, policies, and procedures while ensuring asset quality and consistency. Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience. We own, operate and maintain the electricity transmission and distribution network in Tasmania. We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 295,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. We facilitate the transfer of electricity between Victoria and Tasmania via Basslink, the sub-sea electricity interconnector. We also provide telecommunications and technology services.

About the role

Working as a Principal Technical Engineer within our Asset Management team you are responsible for providing expert advice and leadership for transmission, distribution, substation and underground assets of TasNetworks.

This newly created role takes ownership of these assets through the development of standards, to assist in the delivery of a number of targets, providing technical oversight and influence along the way.

The role will ensure quality and consistency of assets, providing technical leadership to the team that aligns with long term asset business strategy.

As the principal engineer you will consistently contribute to the development of policies and procedures, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure accuracy of information.

About you

As a proven technical Engineer, you will offer a proactive, can-do approach, with a wealth of working knowledge in change management and a great eye for detail.

Your standards experience has been acquired in a design, engineering, or an asset management discipline, holding knowledge of multiple asset classes within a utility, mining, or other heavy engineering environment. You enjoy driving improvements and fostering positive working relationships.

To be successful in a role within the Asset Management team you will bring:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years experience working for Australian TNSP/DNSPs
• In-depth knowledge of the electrical utility industry and the assets within the network coupled with a strong knowledge of power system engineering principles, high voltage plant and equipment and contemporary electricity network maintenance practices and other relevant Policies, Rules, Acts and Standards
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to hold meaningful and productive interactions with a range of stakeholders
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• Experience with SAP and AutoCAD (or similar)
