About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Power Systems Electrical Engineer to design, assemble, install, and maintain electrical distribution grid equipment (1000v and below), including energy storage, LV power distribution systems, grid-tied inverters, motor drives, and control panels for industrial and commercial applications. This role, based in our South Salt Lake manufacturing plant, requires excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Design and Development:
• Develop AC/DC power distribution systems and control panel designs based on project requirements and industry standards (NEC, UL, IEEE, etc.).
• Tune and commission grid-tied inverters and motor drive systems to ensure stability during operation.
• Conduct short circuit studies, load flow analysis, and protection coordination studies for DERs, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings.
• Prepare design calculations, material selection guidelines, technical reports, and budget estimates for energy storage system development and testing.
• Create engineering deliverables, including electrical schematics, SLDs, cabinet layouts, O&M manuals, FAT and SAT protocols, and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with local and regional codes, including NFPA 70.

Research, Development, and Prototype Assembly:
• Manage the Electrical Engineering lab and lead R&D efforts for early product development.
• Assemble electrical control panels in accordance with UL 508A.
• Transition product development activities to production, including wiring diagrams, SOPs, and test procedures.

Collaboration and Support:
• Write and maintain development software and write code to query memory registers in inverters and other renewable energy devices.
• Document findings of best practices of querying memory registers.
• Collaborate with firmware engineers to improve product integration and control.

Documentation and Compliance:
• Maintain accurate records of panel designs, modifications, and testing procedures.
• Assist in creating installation and service manuals for products.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.

Required Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in electrical panel design, assembly, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and experience with SolidWorks.
• Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuit design.
• Hands-on experience with electrical tools and equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience
• Familiarity with renewable energy equipment and installations.
• Knowledge of C++, Python, Arduino, and MODBUS programming and protocols.
• Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.

Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent experience) and 3+ years of experience in electrical design, assembly, and troubleshooting.

Location + Travel The role is onsite based in our South Salt Lake Manufacturing Plant (air-conditioned). May require occasional onsite work in Springville R&D center (air-conditioned and non air-conditioned). Occasional travel to client sites may be required.

Compensation $120,000-130,000

Schedule Full-Time, Salaried

Physical Requirements
• Must have the ability to safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Must be capable of standing, bending, and executing repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to read, identify, observe and recognize details, color-coding and fine print at close range on associated engineering drawings.
• Ability to don personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, respiratory protective equipment with proper seal, coveralls, ear protection, gloves, eye protection & safety helmet.
• Ability to observe, detect and respond to audible and visual machine malfunction warnings.
• Ability to communicate information so others can understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Must report to work reliably and with the ability to use full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute your job.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.
