Job Description

Brandstetter Carroll is seeking an early career planner for parks and recreation in Lexington, KY. Responsibilities include analyzing parks offerings, facilitating community engagement, and preparing planning documents. Candidates should have 0-2 years of planning experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. A relevant degree is required. The position is full-time with some travel and evening/weekend commitments.
Brandstetter Carroll Inc. seeks an early career planner to join our team. We prepare parks, recreation, aquatics, open space, and trails related master plans for cities, counties, and park districts. In addition to our work in Kentucky, we are doing exciting work from Texas to New Jersey, Georgia to Ohio, and our reach is expanding every year.



RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS



Assist with analyzing our clients’ parks and recreation offerings
Support planning and facilitating community engagement, including public workshops and focus groups
Review, analyze, and summarize previously prepared studies and reports
Assist in developing surveys and analyzing results
Work closely with other team members to prepare planning documents
Create, format, and modify documents, spreadsheets, databases, and figures
Prepare illustrative graphics and images for reports and presentations

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

0-2 years of experience in urban, regional, or community planning
Desire to gain experience in planning, community engagement, data analysis, and preparing planning documents
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong research and analytical skills
Proficient in the use of the following programs: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

2-4 years of experience in urban, regional, or community planning
Ability to prepare documents and presentation materials in InDesign, Photoshop, and similar programs
Experience with GIS software (preferably ArcGIS Pro)
Graphic design and data visualization skills

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban, community, and regional planning; landscape architecture; geography; public administration; or other applicable discipline from an accredited college.

TIME AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Able to commit 40 hours per week
Available for evening/weekend public meetings
Able to travel overnight for required client meetings and community engagement
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
