As a PH Environmental Health Specialist within the North Georgia Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Cherokee County Environmental Health is seeking a team-oriented, entry-level level (or additional one-year experience or equivalent at the lower level (EHS1) candidate with strong communication and time-management skills to fill an open position.
Job Responsibilities:
• Under direct supervision, the candidate will learn to evaluate programs for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations and perform public health inspections of the following: On-Site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios.
• Under direct supervision, candidate will respond to public health emergencies as requested. All county public health employees are deemed essential in the event of an emergency and are required to participate in emergency functions.
• Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily.
• May be required to provide support services as requested in the event of a public health emergency.
• Job may include some interactions with homeowners, pets, pet owners, visits to the animal shelter and other commercial and residential properties.
• Must be able to work in various climates both outdoor and indoor.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to bend, twist, stoop on a regular basis
• Work involves daily traveling within county for inspection duties.
• Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
Employment Information:
• This is a salary position and based on a 40-hour work week, M-F.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
