Job Description
The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts seeks a Nature Based Solutions Assistant for a fixed-term contract in Yorkshire. The role involves supporting the NBS & Planning Team with project delivery, conducting site assessments, and providing technical support for biodiversity assessments. Experience in ecological surveys and familiarity with UK environmental policies are essential. The position offers a full-time salary range of £26,649 to £28,804 per annum.

Nature Based Solutions Assistant - Fixed term contract for one year with potential to extend.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Nature Based Solutions (NBS) Assistant.
The NBS Assistant will support the NBS & Planning Team to strategically identify, develop and deliver exemplar NBS activities to drive nature’s recovery across Yorkshire, drawing upon emerging best practices and markets, novel approaches and data / evidence.
Key activities for the role will include helping to deliver NBS projects through undertaking desktop studies, baseline site assessments (e.g. UKHab survey), relevant metric calculations, and a variety of professional reports (e.g.
Biodiversity Net
Gain (BNG) Assessments and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans). You will also work closely with our Operational Team to develop habitat restoration proposals for NBS services, as well as delivering practical land management and undertaking monitoring / audit surveys for NBS projects (e.g.
Habitat
Bank monitoring surveys).
As part of the NBS & Planning Team, the NBS Assistant will also work closely with our Planning colleagues, providing technical support in their review and response to BNG Assessments submitted with planning applications, and provide wider NBS technical advice / support across the Trust and to other stakeholders.
Experience in ecological botanical surveys (e.g. Phase 1 Habitat & UK Habitat Classification), as well as experience in the BNG process (including use of the Defra metric) is essential, as well as experience in practical habitat delivery, a familiarity with UK environment and biodiversity policies / regulations, biodiversity, natural resource and ecosystem issues. Experience in other NBS markets (such as carbon) would be welcomed.
