Position Summary

The Natural Resources Coordinator performs moderate to difficult tasks in the areas of natural resources, water resources, forestry, sustainability, environmental education, and landscaping. This position administers the tree preservation ordinance through review and inspection of new developments, building permits, site improvements, and public improvement projects. This position serves as the liaison to local, state, regional agencies and provides support to all functional areas of the City's Engineering, Community Development, and Public Works departments.

Expected Hiring Range: $37.87 - $42.39/hour
Full Compensation Range: $37.87 - $49.88/hour
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Develop and implement policies, plans, and programs to protect and/or restore natural resources.Review and implement tree preservation ordinance for developments, site developments, and building permits.Perform site inspections of landscaping and tree preservation requirements.Review and recommend tree preservation and planting plans as necessary for City initiated projects.Research, develop, and present reports and policies to internal and external stakeholders that establish standards, plans and procedures for the implementation of reforestation, landscape maintenance, tree maintenance, and environmental education. Manage the City's open space and natural resource areas.Perform plant and tree identification of native plants, obnoxious weeds, and landscape planting.Assist in research and preparation of grant applications and management of grant-initiated projects for reforestation, sustainability, landscape maintenance, tree maintenance, and environmental education.Serves as the City's forester.Support internal environmental education, programs. and committees.Assist Water Resources Manager with activities as needed.Oversee work crews and/or contractors relating to tree and natural resources managementAssist in other departmental administrative activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in natural resources, environmental science, water resources or related field.Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.Possession of a valid MN Driver's license or ability to obtain before employment.

Conditions of Work
A combination of a normal office environment with light physical activity and field inspection work involving traveling in a vehicle and possible adverse weather conditions.
