Job Overview*

The National Park Service is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join the Regional Planning and Special Studies (PPSS) Program as a Park Planning Fellow. This exceptional opportunity offers an in-depth understanding and hands-on involvement in the design and planning of national park units.

As a member of the PPSS Program, you will work alongside a professional community of NPS planners to gain knowledge and contribute to addressing key issues within the NPS. You will support the Midwest Regional Office, working with Interior Regions 3, 4, and 5, and contribute to national, regional, and park planning projects.

Key Responsibilities:
• Support the development of comprehensive river management plans and scenic trail protection plans.
• Assist in designing and implementing civic engagement strategies to empower stakeholders and partners.
• Develop communication strategies to generate relevant input for planning processes.
• Work closely with the regional public affairs specialist to foster strong relationships through park planning efforts.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, History, Anthropology, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, or Public Administration.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as part of a larger team.
• Confidence in conducting literature reviews and carrying out independent research.
• Previous experience with hands-on efforts to support conservation and recreation planning.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and some experience in graphic design and GIS/Google Earth mapping.
