Job Description
The University of Hawaii is seeking a part-time Lecturer in Sustainability Sciences for Kaua'i Community College. Responsibilities include conducting lectures, preparing course materials, and maintaining office hours. Candidates must have a relevant Master's degree and demonstrate a supportive attitude towards diverse students. The position is temporary and contingent on funding, with teaching assignments potentially occurring at various times and locations, including on-campus.

Other Conditions: Part-time, for placement in lecturer candidate pool, non-tenurial, contingent on availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Day, evening, or Saturday offerings, on- and off-campus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Under general supervision, conduct lectures and as appropriate, laboratory courses in Sustainability Sciences.
• Maintain office hours of at least one hour per week for each course taught.
• Prepare course outlines and reports related to teaching and student progress.
• Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area under supervision of the division chairperson.
• Collect student and peer evaluations and complete a self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
• Complete instructional assignments which may involve day, evening, early morning, weekend, outreach (such as Early College), and/or distance education classes.
• Adhere to all due dates, including the online submission of grades.
• Adhere to community college principles and philosophy.
• Work effectively with a diverse student and community population in accordance with the Board of Regents Policy 4.207 III.F.1 and college practice of the open-admission concept.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
a) Master's degree in Sustainability Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental/Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, Ecological Sciences, Environmental Policy, Renewable Energy Engineering/Science
or
b) Master's degree in any of the following:
Geography (with a focus on sustainability or environmental systems)
Oceanography (with a focus on environmental impacts)
Atmospheric Science (with a focus on climate change)
Urban and Regional Planning (with a sustainability focus)
All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Successful community college teaching experience.
• Possess a supportive attitude toward student learning and be able to create a nurturing classroom environment for students of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrated success serving as a mentor, advisor, or team leader.
• Have supportive attitude toward student learning and be able to create a nurturing classroom environment for students of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrated understanding of issues related to local communities.
• Successful multicultural teaching experience.
