Exelon is seeking a visionary Lead Grid Modernization Engineer to join our team in Denver, Colorado. This leadership role is critical for driving the planning, design, and implementation of initiatives to modernize our energy grid, incorporating new technologies like smart grid solutions, distributed energy resources (DER), and advanced control systems within the Energy sector.
As a Lead Grid Modernization Engineer at Exelon , you will lead projects focused on enhancing grid reliability, efficiency, and resilience. You will be responsible for evaluating new technologies, developing modernization strategies, overseeing technical studies, and guiding project teams. This position requires deep technical expertise in power systems, experience with grid modernization technologies, and strong leadership and project management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the technical planning, design, and implementation of grid modernization projects. Evaluate and recommend new technologies for grid infrastructure, including smart grid devices, communication systems, and advanced sensors. Perform complex power system studies related to DER integration, grid stability, and control systems. Develop grid modernization strategies and roadmaps. Oversee technical analysis and design work performed by internal teams and external consultants. Guide and mentor junior engineers on grid modernization concepts and projects. Collaborate with grid planning, operations, and IT teams. Prepare technical specifications and requirements for new grid technologies and systems. Analyze the impact of grid modernization initiatives on system performance and reliability. Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulations related to grid modernization (e.g., IEEE standards, state clean energy goals). Prepare technical reports, presentations, and business cases for grid modernization projects. Participate in pilot projects and technology evaluations. Manage technical aspects of vendor relationships for grid technology solutions. Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with grid modernization efforts. Contribute to the development of long-term grid infrastructure plans.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in power systems engineering, with significant experience in grid modernization, smart grid technologies, or DER integration. Proven ability to lead technical projects and guide engineering teams. Strong knowledge of grid operations, planning, and control systems. Experience with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory) and simulation tools. Understanding of communication networks and cybersecurity as applied to the grid. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineering (PE) license. Experience managing large-scale grid modernization projects. Experience with utility-scale renewable energy integration.
