INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/DATA SCIENTIST

The U.S. Fleet Forces Command is hiring an Interdisciplinary Physical Scientist/Oceanographer/Data Scientist for the Oceanographic Department. Responsibilities include analyzing and databasing oceanographic data, improving processing techniques, and participating in at-sea operations. Summary
You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/DATA SCIENTIST in the OCEANOGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT, NAVAL OCEANOGRAPHIC OFFICE of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.


Duties
Help

You will serve as a senior scientist in the analysis and databasing of oceanographic data in support of operational requirements.
You will implement and document new or improvement of existing oceanographic processing, data analysis, and visualization techniques, testing and validating upgrades in collaboration with other scientists.
You will participate in at-sea oceanographic operations serving as a senior Oceanographer ensuring that all physical oceanographic data is collected properly.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
This position has been designated as a Cyberspace Workforce position in the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) work role of intermediate Data Scientist and, as a condition of employment:
The incumbent of the position is required to obtain and maintain qualification in accordance with DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Management Program, February 15, 2023, and supporting Department of Navy policies.
The designation requires the incumbent to: Obtain the foundational qualification within nine months and the residential qualification within 12 months of appointment and maintain those credentials as described in DoDM 8140.03.
An annual 20-hour minimum of Cyber Workforce related continuous professional development must be documented and completed in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor.
Continuous professional development begins in the fiscal year after the employee has obtained both foundational and residential qualification requirements.
Failure to meet a condition of employment may result in disciplinary and/or adverse action up to removal from federal service.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of SPECIALIZED experience at or equivalent to the
GS-11
grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience comparing and modifying oceanographic data (such as temperature, salinity, sound speed, currents, and optics) using scientific programming software to generate environmental products and reports. Conducting at-sea field operations, including the collection and quality control of physical oceanographic data using a variety of scientific instruments including but not limited to Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth profilers (CTDs), Expendable Bathythermographs (XBTs), Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), and Moving Vessel Profilers (MVPs).
