Job Description:

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is looking for talented, energetic and people-oriented leaders to fill the Regional Habitat Restoration Biologist and Impact Analysis Biologist roles in our Ogden office. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is looking for a talented, energetic and people-oriented leader to fill the Regional Habitat Restoration Biologist role in our Ogden office. You would oversee the implementation of DWR's regional habitat restoration activities, which include implementation of Watershed Restoration Initiative (WRI) and Habitat Council projects on private, state, and federal lands, and primary management responsibilities of 27 wildlife management areas and 30 conservation easements. Responsibilities would also include fostering local partnerships, building relationships with local, state, and federal partners, as well as local elected officials, and assisting other biologists with regional impact analysis activities and coordination.

Responsibilities
• Work with the Regional Habitat Manager to develop and manage the Northern Region's Habitat Section budget and annual workplan.
• Plan, implement and monitor habitat restoration projects on private, federal and state lands, (including 30 Wildlife Management Areas and 31 conservation easements) through the Watershed Restoration Initiative (WRI), Habitat Council, and other partnerships.
• Work with the other Sections to collaboratively restore and maintain habitat for wildlife
• Cultivate relationships with private landowners, local, state, and federal land managers, and private conservation partners and organizations.
• Continually develop professional expertise and knowledge of wildlife populations and habitats throughout the region and provide habitat related recommendations to help biologists achieve conservation goals.
• Establish a culture of teamwork and collaboration through meaningful interactions with fellow team members and staff from other regional administrative sections.
• Develop and monitor project budgets and expenditures, and ensure that program resources are being used efficiently and effectively, and adhere to relevant statutes, administrative rules, and agency policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Analyze impacts to wildlife and wildlife habitat and work to mitigate those impacts through coordination and communication with stakeholders
• Other duties as assigned from the Habitat Manager.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
• At least three years of professional experience in a wildlife-related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in Utah's wildlife and lands conservation programs, laws, regulations, policies, and practices.
• Proven ability to cultivate collaborative, solution-oriented partnerships with diverse stakeholders and organizations.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to develop creative and pragmatic solutions to complex problems, processes, and socio-political conflicts.
• Proven experience managing projects, programs, and budgets with meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a natural resources field.
• Advanced degree (Master's) in a wildlife-related natural resources field or other relevant discipline.
• Successful full-time work experience exceeding the minimum requirements. Specific years of preferred experience will vary based on the position's demands.
• *The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a natural resources field, or a master's degree in a wildlife-related area or other applicable discipline strongly preferred. We are looking for individuals with a proven track record of success in habitat biology.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
• Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
• Risks found in a typical office setting, and occasional risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental situations, when helping regional staff conduct field work (e.g., facilities maintenance, construction, and habitat management projects).
• Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
• Typical work schedule is 40 hours per week, with occasional weekends, evenings and emergency response.
Requirements:
• Valid Drivers License
• This is a full-time position, which occasionally requires irregular hours, including evenings, weekends and during emergency situations.
• Occasional overnight travel within Utah, and occasionally outside of the state, is required to attend meetings, conferences, support habitat management projects, visit remote sites in the field and meet with stakeholders, etc.
