Architectural Design Intern

Clark Nexsen is seeking an Architectural Design Intern for their Raleigh, NC office as part of the 2025 Summer Scholars program. The intern will collaborate with architects on various projects, develop design materials, and engage with stakeholders. Candidates should be enrolled in an accredited architecture program and possess skills in design software. The role emphasizes teamwork, sustainability, and innovative design solutions.
A creative Design Intern shares our commitment to design excellence, sustainability, and innovation as a part of our 2025 Summer Scholars program. You will join a team of architects and designers, working in a multi-discipline, collaborative, and engaging team-based environment that draws on multiple perspectives in the pursuit of innovative solutions. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to shape architectural projects in a variety of typologies and scales for clients that include educational and cultural institutions, commercial developers, government entities, and local communities. The ideal candidate for this position will be energetic and passionate about design, committed to quality, engaged in team, office, and firm-wide initiatives, able to work independently and in a team environment, and able to prioritize work.

General Responsibilities in including but not limited to:
• Collaborate with project teams during project design phases including programming, concept development, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation
• Develop design sketches, renderings, models, graphics, presentation materials, analysis, and construction drawings and schedules
• Participate in the construction administration of projects including jobsite visits, review of submittals, and responding to contractor questions
• Communicate and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including clients, owners, users, team members, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to achieve overall project objectives
• Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and participation in continuouslearning
• Help deliver great projects with a sense of energy, passion and personal responsibility

Education, Technology, and Experience
• Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a NAAB accredited program as detailed below:
• Students who have completed at least three years in an accredited 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch) program.
• Students who have completed at least one year in an accredited Master of Architecture (M Arch) program.
• Students who have earned their BS Arch degree (or equivalent) and have been accepted to enter an accredited Master of Architecture (M Arch) program that begins no later than September 5, 2025.
• Prior experience in an architectural practice or related field will be given special consideration
• Exposure to 3D modeling, visualization, and graphics software; Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Lumion, Enscape, Twinmotion, and Adobe Suite are strongly preferred
• Physical model building, experience in a model building shop is strongly preferred
• Excellent graphic, drawing, and presentation capabilities
• Ability and experience in producing quality construction documents, solid understanding of building detailing, construction principles and practices
• Exposure to environmental analysis applications such as Climate Studio, Sefaira, Insight360, and Lady Bug/Honeybee is a plus
• Commitment to sustainable design principles and interest in achieving accreditation in LEED AP, WELL AP, and/or Green Globes

Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight. Workplace Flexibility

We have selected two as common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients). Our hope is that this schedule will offer the work-life balance that is desired by all, while providing consistent opportunities for face-to-face collaboration and mentorship.
