About the Role

As Grid Engineer, you will lead the development and delivery of NEM-compliant connection strategies across a portfolio of grid-scale generation and storage assets. Reporting to the Head of Grid, you will manage all technical aspects of the GPS and registration process, coordinate external modelling providers, and work closely with internal stakeholders to align plant design with network performance requirements.

Your insights will shape how assets interact with evolving system conditions, with a focus on technical accuracy, risk mitigation and commercial value.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead generator registration and GPS negotiation for renewable and BESS projects
• Coordinate grid modelling and connection studies with third-party consultants
• Review PSCAD, PSS®E, and RMS/EMT outputs to ensure NEM compliance
• Support all phases of the R0–R2 process, including modelling and commissioning
• Engage directly with AEMO, TNSPs/DNSPs and regulatory bodies
• Support development teams with substation, cable routing and grid design decisions
• Assess system strength, fault ride through, voltage control and FCAS capabilities
• Ensure alignment of plant design with evolving NER technical standards
• Advise on inverter-based resource performance, control systems and tuning
• Prepare internal grid connection strategies, risk assessments, and approvals
• Support grid-related due diligence for acquisitions and greenfield opportunities
• Collaborate with EPC, OEM and operations teams on connection delivery
Skills & Experience
• Electrical engineering degree with 5+ years’ experience in NEM grid connection
• Demonstrated success working with AEMO and NSPs on large-scale renewables
• Strong understanding of NER, GPS, and generator registration frameworks
• Hands-on experience with PSCAD, PSS®E, PowerFactory or similar
• Technical knowledge of wind, solar PV, BESS and inverter-based systems
• Experience managing external consultants and modelling providers
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with stakeholder management acumen
