We have a dynamic team that integrates geology, hydrology, hydrogeology and environmental sciences to deliver sustainable solutions.

We are currently recruiting for the position of a Geoscience Technician/Environmental Technologist to join our team of diverse geoscience and environmental professionals; initially as a contract staff with the likelihood of becoming a full-time permanent staff. The position is based in our Calgary Office, AB. The prerequisites for this role include good technical skills and a commitment to work at times outside of the normal working hours. This is a fulltime position, working for 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the senior management, the position holder will be engaged in the implementation of a variety of geoscience, environmental site assessments and remediation projects.

The position holder will be engaged in groundwater and environmental work mostly in western Canada. There may be occasional travel international for similar activities.

Responsibilities

The Environmental Technologist will be involved in the following activities:
• Assist geoscientists and environmental scientists in hydrogeological and environmental site investigations;
• Engaged in hydrogeological and environmental data compilation and interpretation;
• Provide required support in the development of proposals and reports;
• Provide database management support to include data entering, verification, manipulation, and analyzing;
• Provide coordination and field supervision of subcontractors;
• Prepare notes, sketches, geological maps and cross-section; and
• Engaged in other duties as may be required.

Desired Skills and Experience
• 0 – 3 years’ experience in the groundwater and environmental consulting industry preferably in western Canada
• A Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in Geology/Hydrogeology or Environmental Sciences or Technician/Technologist Diploma in a related field.
• Must be self-motivated and hardworking and able to successfully lead projects;
• Must fill comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
• Comfortable with Geographic Information System data collection and interpretation;
• Must have high degree of proficiency and comfort with computer software. Proficiency with the following software will be very desirable: S. Office Suite, Surfer, Grapher, AQSOLVE and AquiferTest Pro
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• A valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
• Team player/Excellent inter-personal skills
• Oilfield experience will be an asset;

The following will be considered an asset for this position:
• Previous work experience within a consulting environment particularly in the oil and gas, mining and energy sectors;
• Ability to relate and work well within a multi-culturally sensitive and multi-disciplinary team environment;
• Familiarity with common groundwater and other relevant software will be a plus (eg: HydroGeo Analyst, MODFLOW, AquiferTest, AQUACHEM, ArcGIS, and ACCESS).
• Knowledge of geophysical methods applied to hydrogeology; and
• Eligible for registration with APEGA
