We have a dynamic team that integrates geology, hydrology, hydrogeology and environmental sciences to deliver sustainable solutions.
We are currently recruiting for the position of an experienced Environmental Scientist to join our team of diverse geoscience and environmental professionals; initially as a contract staff with the likelihood of becoming a full-time permanent staff. The prerequisites for this role include a high level of technical skills and a commitment to assist management pursue new and exciting projects. This is a fulltime position, working for 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday.
Position Overview
Under the direction of the senior management, the Environmental Scientist will be engaged in the implementation of a variety of site assessments and remediation projects.
The successful candidate will be engaged in the analysis and interpretation of various hydrogeological data and oversee and/or conduct field projects when necessary. The main duties and responsibilities of this position are:
• Assist senior management to identify new project opportunities and build excellent service-based relationships with our diverse clientele-base;
• Provide technical and project management support for a wide range of hydrogeology programs serving the water, mining, infrastructure and development, oil and gas and the energy sectors;
• Plan and oversee the implementation of field hydrogeology programs such as: drilling, sampling, well design and construction; well development; aquifer and slug tests, instrumentation installation etc.;
• Take lead in the design and the successful implementation of projects related to:
• Large-scale regional and local hydrogeological and environmental assessments;
• Regulatory surface and groundwater monitoring programs;
• Analyze and interpret hydrogeological data and writing technical reports on project outcome;
• Manage project timelines and budgets and ensure the timely delivery of professionally written reports to our clients;
• Provide training to junior technical staff
• Travel is required for field projects and the incumbent must be prepared to undertake field assignments, mostly in western Canada
Desired Skills and Experience
• A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in either Geology, Hydrogeology or a related field with at least five years related experience in the areas of physical and contaminant hydrogeology and groundwater resources development and management;
• Sound field experience in land environmental site assessments and remediation-related projects;
• Project management experience and strong organizational skills;
• High level of personal integrity and a good work ethics;
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• A valid Class 5 driver’s licence; and
• Computer literacy
The following will be considered an asset for this position:
• Previous work experience within a consulting environment particularly in the oil and gas, mining and energy sectors;
• Ability to relate and work well within a multi-culturally sensitive and multi-disciplinary team environment;
• Familiarity with common groundwater and other relevant software will be a plus (eg: HydroGeo Analyst, MODFLOW, AquiferTest, AQUACHEM, ArcGIS, and ACCESS).
• Knowledge of geophysical methods applied to hydrogeology; and
• Eligible for registration with APEGA.
