Job Description
Simcoe County is hiring a Utility Aide for Environmental Services in New Tecumseth, ON. The role involves ensuring resident safety, maintaining clean work areas, and assisting in infection control. Requirements include grade 11 education, experience in housekeeping or maintenance, and good communication skills. The position requires physical activity and is located in a long-term care facility, indicating exposure to various working conditions.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a valued member of Long Term Care Services, the Utility Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organisation’s mission and vision. The Utility Aide reports directly to the Environmental Services Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with and ensuring that the requirements of the Ministry of Long Term Care and other legislation that affect the operation of the department are met. The position follows the Environmental Services department policies and procedures, ensures work areas are maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary condition. This position assumes an active role in the infection control programme and assists with the orientation of new staff as required. The Utility Aide performs daily upkeep of assigned equipment, ordering, monitor inventory, receiving and delivery of supplies as assigned by the Environmental Services Supervisor.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Completion of grade 11 or equivalent.
• Ability to successfully complete a reading and comprehension assessment.
• Proven knowledge in housekeeping and building maintenance and repair practices in a similar setting.
• Flexible with willingness to learn new tasks, multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities.
• Proven knowledge of floor care.
• Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong customer service skills with a recognition that errors and omissions may result in serious consequences for residents and staff.
• Successful passing of a criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening that is less than six (6) months old upon hire at time of hire.
• A minimum of three (3) months experience in housekeeping and/or maintenance in a related environment.
EFFORT
• Constant standing and walking during work periods, turning, stooping, bending and lifting.
• Moving equipment and performing other related tasks.
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Working with cleaning materials, exposed to dirt, dust, smells, etc.
• This position is located in a long term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
COMPENSATION
As per the applicable collective agreement wage grid
Georgian Manor (OPSEU): - per hour
Simcoe Manor, Sunset Manor, Trillium Manor (SEIU Service): - per hour
