What you'll do: As part of the Waste Management Program, you will play an important role in implementing waste management regulatory policies to protect human health and the environment. Our team works with South Dakota businesses, industries, and communities to promote and sustain economic development in an environmentally responsible manner. Specific job duties include inspections at permitted solid waste facilities and asbestos abatement projects, field investigations at waste-related facilities, asbestos and building demolition compliance, asbestos worker certification compliance, technical report writing, communication with the regulated community, and data collection and management. Duties may include the following: Conducting solid waste field inspections and building demolition inspections. Preparing inspection reports, technical reports, and written correspondence. Obtaining and maintaining asbestos inspector certification. Reviewing asbestos abatement and building demolition applications. Reviewing asbestos worker certification applications and auditing asbestos training courses. Organizing and maintaining environmental databases and analyzing environmental data. Collecting environmental samples, measurements and information. Providing technical information and assistance to colleagues, other state and federal agencies, and members of the public with customer service being a high priority. A valid driver's license is required. We are looking for candidates that have: Knowledge of environmental, physical and chemical principles and processes. Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple tasks in an organized and timely manner. Ability to learn and a willingness to be challenged. Ability to set goals and work independently or in a team setting to achieve them. Skill to communicate with the public, be self-motivated, and organized. Ability to work in collaborative team environments.
