Job Description

Jacobs is offering a Summer 2025 Environmental Scientist Internship in Houma, LA, focused on monitoring and restoring coastal wetlands. Interns will conduct ecological sampling, data analysis, and participate in restoration projects, often in challenging field conditions. Candidates must be enrolled in a relevant degree program, have a valid driver's license, and be prepared for physical work. The position requires collaboration in a team environment and is not remote.
Our Coastal Scientist jobs are your opportunity to help monitor and restore coastal Louisiana wetlands and estuaries. Each day, you will work on ecological monitoring projects conducting environmental sampling and data analysis. You should be a self-motivated, team-focused individual and currently enrolled in an US accredited college or university with an environmental science focus.

While this role is tied to our closet Jacobs office, in Baton Rouge, LA; this person will work out of our field office based in Houma, LA.

Our Coastal Scientist Interns:
• Assist in scientific data collection including wetland vegetation composition and cover, hydrologic (using continuous recorders), and wetland surface elevation and accretion (via RSET/feldspar techniques).
• Work in an effective team environment, learning and taking instruction from mid and senior staff.
• Work on coastal restoration projects requiring heavy physical exertion in a variety of difficult field conditions.
• Work in the field 3-5 days per week with some light construction and shop/equipment maintenance responsibilities.
• Share work experiences in a positive work environment where talents are valued.
• Contribute to a company dedicated to sustainable development practices.

Jacobs will not sponsor an employment visa to fill this position.
• Currently enrolled in a natural sciences degree program from a US accredited college or university.
• Candidate should be familiar with coastal systems.
• Louisiana experience is preferred.
• MUST have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to travel.
• MUST be comfortable working in all types of boats.
• Experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Safety focus required.
• Must be capable of heavy physical exertion in a variety of difficult field conditions.
